OUR FINGERS ARE DUMB!!! The muscles of the hand need a minimum of 3 repetitions of a passage in order to remember it the next you play the passage. If you play it fewer than 3 times, the fingers will not remember it. After 6 - 7 repetitions of a passage, the brain is fatigued, so move on to another passage. If you continue, the passage will probably get worse and you will get mad. Your best window of repetition is 3 - 6 times. Parent TipsEven if you do not play an instrument, you can help your child succeed in piano lessons. You can get the most from your investment and show how important the lessons are by getting your student to lessons on time, check the assignment notebook during the week, provide a quiet and consistent practice time, ask your child to play for you, keep the piano tuned and in good working condition and encourage your child to perform for recitals and other events. Your child will pick up on your attitude and this will go a long way to determining the amount of success your child experiences. Music QuotesNotes must flow like oil. - Mozart Sing, don't play exercises. - Toscanini It's easy to play any musical instrument: all you have to do is touch the right key at the right time, and the instrument will play by itself. - Johann Sebastian Bach Recommend to your children virtue: that alone can make them happy, not gold. - Ludwig van Beethoven Take it for granted from the beginning that everything is possible on the piano, even when it seems impossible to you, or really is so. - Ferruccio Busoni If I don't practice for one day, I know it; if I don't practice for two days, the critics know it; if I don't practice for three days, the audience knows it. - Ignacy Jan Paderewski Genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration. - Thomas Alva Edison Helpful Web SitesThe following web sites are good resources for more information and fun to explore:
